SHOE KNOWLEDGE

Chukka Boot

The Chukka boot’s origins are relatively obscure – originally known as ‘vellies’ ( Veldskoene or colloquially vellies), a South African walking shoe, they were first made by 17th-century Dutch settlers.

LAST NO: 4497s

This last has been used for decades. It is part of our history and character as England's oldest shoe manufacturer. The size (length fitting) of Tricker’s footwear made on this last (4497s) is true to size, we recommend sticking to your regular UK size. If you are unsure of your UK size, use our size guide to convert your known size to a UK size.

The last is a hard, three-dimensional form on which the shoe is constructed. Depending on the style of shoe we use different lasts, this is what dictates the overall shape, proportion, fit and character of the shoe.

Scotch Grain

Scotch grain grain leather is a type of leather that is characterized by its distinctive pebbled texture. It is made from high-quality cowhide and is typically embossed with a pattern that resembles small pebbles or stones. The pattern is achieved through a process of stamping the leather with a heavy roller that has a raised pattern on its surface.

Scotch grain leather is known for its durability and water resistance, which makes it a popular choice for our shoes and boots and the outdoors. This leather is typically thicker than a standard calf leather.
