Historical Figures

Joseph Tricker
Tricker's was founded by Joseph Tricker, who aged nineteen was already a master shoemaker and set up the business we all know and love today.
After making shoes for fifty years, Joseph died aged sixty-nine and the business was handed to his son-in-law Walter James Barltrop.

WALTER JAMES BARLTROP
Born in 1840, Walter was very much ahead of his time and age. At just seven years old, he created a modern boot.
In 1862, Walter married Joseph Tricker’s daughter Clara Louise and subsequently became the head of R. E. Tricker & Co.

ERNEST RAYMOND BARLTROP
The son of Walter Barltrop, born in 1869, Ernest was incredibly involved in the evolving design of our footwear.
In 1904, our newest Northampton shoe factory was opened. This is where we still make all our footwear.
