Ripon Derby “Field” Boot

The Ripon boot teems with historical references and began life in the mid-19th century at Tricker’s as a ‘field boot’, designed to wear in poor weather to protect the feet of farm labourers. Even today, the Ripon boot is still going strong and thanks to its outstanding quality and durability, will remain that way for many more years to come.

This Ripon boot is purposely unassuming in its design; classic clean lines with no adornment. It’s typically ‘Tricker’s’ in its build: a half bellows tongue is folded and attached to the boot to provide a watertight seal, the welt provides a water-resistant bond between the sole and upper. A clean seven eyelet, seamless leather upper and a natural edge finish give the derby ankle boot its unmistakable, country-style look.

It’s now a go-to casual option and is very easy to wear in either a smart or casual context. This boot has been reinvented with Heinen Regatta hydrophobic leather. The leather comes from the Heinen Tannery (since 1891) in Germany and like all their leather it is hydrophobic and can meet all the technical requirements placed on the various types of shoes and boots. As the leather is heavily weatherproofed this should hold up in the harshest of weather conditions.

The Mike “Chukka” Boot

The Chukka boot’s origins are relatively obscure – originally known as ‘vellies’ ( Veldskoene or colloquially vellies), a South African walking shoe, they were first made by 17th-century Dutch settlers. They were famously worn by the British Army in India and by aristocratic polo players throughout the 19th century, where the name ‘Chukka’ was adopted from the term ‘chukker’ (the name given to seven minutes of play in a polo match).

The style became popular in the late 1940s through the 1960s as casual wear. Originally designed for comfort and versatility, these boots have transcended time, remaining a stylish and rugged option. The beauty of the Chukka boot lies in its ability to seamlessly transition between formal and casual settings. Whether paired with a tailored suit for a sharp, polished look or worn with jeans for a more relaxed, off-duty style, Tricker’s Chukka boots effortlessly blend sophistication and rugged charm.

The stylish and rugged Mike Chukka boot has been reinvented with Heinen Regatta hydrophobic leather for the autumn and winter months. This stunning leather is durable and extremely hard wearing. Cattle hides from Germany are among the highest quality raw material types in the world: large, strong, clean in the assortment and in the skin, without branding. the quality of these boots is outstanding and built to last.
