The Bourton is widely regarded as the definitive English country shoe. Built on the 4444 last, it is famous for its generous proportions and "oversized" character. This is a shoe that feels substantial from the first wear, featuring a full-wing brogue design and a bellows tongue that is stitched directly to the upper to keep out the elements.

Natural Horween: A Canvas for Your Journey In this Construct Exclusive finish, the Bourton is presented in Natural Horween leather. Arriving in a pale, creamy tan, this leather is completely untreated by pigments, allowing the natural grain and high oil content to take center stage.

  • The Patina: This is a "living" leather. It will darken with exposure to light and richen with every mile you walk, developing a high-contrast patina that makes your pair entirely one-of-a-kind.

  • The Pull-Up: Packed with waxes, the leather exhibits a beautiful "pull-up" effect, where the color lightens and shifts as the leather flexes across your foot.

Unrivaled Foundation To match its rugged upper, this Bourton is fitted with a Dainite Rubber Sole. The studded design offers reliable grip on slick surfaces while maintaining the classic profile of a leather sole. Finished with a natural leather storm welt, this shoe is engineered to handle decades of wear and can be fully rebuilt by the factory when the time comes.

SHOE KNOWLEDGE

Brogues

Look in the dictionary and you'll read that brogues are defined as 'a strong outdoor shoe with ornamental perforated patterns in the leather' - A Bourton is the finest example of this that you will find.

The perforations synonymous with brogues were originally a functional characteristic positioned to allow water to drain from the shoes but also to allow for ventilation.

LAST NO: 4444

These are a generous fit and therefore typically larger by half a size. If you normally take a UK size 8, we recommend you try a size 7½.

The last is a hard, three-dimensional form on which the shoe is constructed. Depending on the style of shoe we use different lasts, this is what dictates the overall shape, proportion, fit and character of the shoe.

Horween

The Horween Tannery in Chicago, USA was founded in 1905 and is the oldest tannery in the United States.  Horween leathers employ traditional tannages and techniques, carefully updated with modern applications. Their leathers are still made by hand, as they always have been.

Horween Derby is a vegetable-tanned full-grain leather that is heavily stuffed with waxes and fats and is tumbled to add suppleness and texture.  This leather has a semi-smooth, low gloss finish with occasional wrinkles on some parts of the hide. It ages beautifully over time.
