Shoe Knowledge

The Brogue

The brogue is defined as a strong outdoor shoe, distinguished by its decorative perforations. Originally, these details were entirely functional, designed to allow water to drain and allow for ventilation in wet conditions. Over time, the brogue evolved from practical footwear into a lasting staple.

An icon of Northampton shoemaking history, Tricker's styles like the Bourton have long defined the country brogue, staying true to its origins through robust construction and unmistakable detailing.

LAST NO: 4444

These are a generous fit and therefore typically larger by half a size. If you normally take a UK size 8, we recommend you try a size 7½.

Zug Grain

Zug grain grain leather is a type of leather that is characterized by its distinctive pebbled texture. It is made from high-quality cowhide and is typically embossed with a pattern that resembles small pebbles or stones. The pattern is achieved through a process of stamping the leather with a heavy roller that has a raised pattern on its surface.

Scotch grain leather is known for its durability and water resistance, which makes it a popular choice for our shoes and boots and the outdoors. This leather is typically thicker than a standard calf leather.

World class shoes

"15 years in, resoled once and brilliant in every way. I now live back in Newmarket so perfect for watching the horses train"

Tricker's shoes are durable

"I have a pair of Keswicks which I bought in 2006. They have been resoled four times. I also have a pair of Keswicks I purchased in 1978. I also have two pairs of Burfords I had made with a 6 fitting. One pair is coming up for its first resole. This is prepping for the eventualiity that I can no longer afford to run a car and have to walk to the railway station or bus stop."

Absolutely incredible

"The most beautiful fit I’ve had in a shoe. Each is a pure work of art and a pleasure to own and walk in. I look forward to my next pair. Boots I think!"

yo no recomiendo bajar media

"yo no recomiendo bajar media talla, tengo un 8uk en todos mis zapatos y en este modelo también"

Best Fitting Derby Shoes

"I’ve already owned a pair of Bourtons and The Stow before my purchase. I bought these in size 7UK, which is my true size. Both are superb but the Ilkleys are by far the best. Leather is supple right out of the box so i reckon it’s new and this time around having owned a few pairs of Trickers for a while, i knew i had to size down by half. The Ilkleys now fit me extremely well ad i knew they would."

Understated Luxury

"I bought a pair of Trickers Ilkley brogues the I was 22 years old. I still wear them and I am now 52, so they were worth the money. They really are hard wearing and comfortable and look good with jeans or cords. be warned, they come up about half a size larger, so it's advisable todrop half a size when you come to buy a pair. Over the years people have commented on how good they look. These Trickers shoes are a bit of understated luxury and what'e even better, they are made in the UK."

Perfekt

"Die Form folgt in perfekter Weise der gewünschten Funktion."

Komfortabler Sitz und Wasser/Dreck resistenter

"Komfortabler Sitz und Wasser/Dreck resistenter Schuh, da ist die unmodische Breite zweitrangig"

Prof. W. (5/5)

Simply wonderful shoes.

"I'm new to the reviewing experience here, but an old friend of these shoes (or they are to me). I've owned a pair of Ilkley's for 15 years. I have walked countless miles in them, in town and country and they are finally needing a resole. I'm 63 now, and confident they will last me the rest of my life once the new soles are on. Simply wonderful shoes."

Fantastic Ilkley

"I have 3 pairs of Trickers shoes. They are all my favourite shoes! Extremely comfortable and superbly made. Thank you!"
