The Havard Street Penny Loafer is Tricker’s take on a classic slip-on style, made on our 11659 last for a true-to-size fit. With its clean profile, saddle strap and shaped cut-out detail, it carries the familiar details that gave the penny loafer its name. Easy to wear with tailoring, denim or smarter casual trousers, it is a versatile city shoe with a long history behind it.
This version comes in Espresso Burnished Calf, a deep brown leather with a polished finish and subtle variation in tone. The burnishing adds depth around the shoe, giving the leather a richer character than a flat brown calf. Its dark espresso shade makes it a natural choice with navy, charcoal, cream, denim and relaxed tailoring.
Made in our Northampton factory by skilled craftspeople using traditional methods, the Havard Street Penny Loafer is built with the same care and standards that first established the Tricker’s reputation. Its slip-on shape gives it everyday ease, while the leather sole keeps the profile clean, smart and closely tied to the loafer’s original purpose as a refined, practical shoe.
Made from Calf leather is finer grained, and lighter in weight than the hide of older cattle. This means that it is also more supple. It is also very durable in comparison to its thickness.

The loafer traces its roots to 1930s Norway, drawing on Native American moccasins and the slip-on shoes worn by Norwegian fishermen. As it spread across Europe and the US, it gained wider attention, even appearing in Esquire.
In America, the Spaulding family popularised the name “loafer,” before G.H. Bass introduced the Weejun in 1934, defined by its now-iconic leather saddle and cut-out detail. By the 1950s, it had become a staple, with the habit of placing a dime in the saddle giving rise to the name Penny Loafer.
Today, Tricker’s interprets this classic through the same Northamptonshire making that defines its boots and shoes, bringing a more robust, long-wearing character to a traditionally lightweight style.
This last has been developed for our Loafer collection and features a rounder toe shape.
