The Bourton is our definitive heavy country shoe, instantly recognisable by its wingtip design and substantial profile. Built on the 4444 last, it offers a generous, roomy fit that has been a staple of the Tricker's collection for decades. In this Champagne Waxy Commander finish, the shoe moves away from the polished city aesthetic and into a world of pure, functional endurance.

Waxy Commander: The Stead Standard Tanned by C.F. Stead in Leeds, Waxy Commander is a "shrunk" suede that is saturated with waxes during the tanning process.

  • Champagne Colourway: A pale, earthy sand tone that highlights the rugged, uneven texture of the leather.

  • Natural Water Resistance: The deep wax impregnation ensures the leather is naturally water-repellent, making it the ideal choice for wet British winters.

  • Tough Character: This leather is designed to be lived in; it does not require precious handling and only looks better as it gains character marks.

Technical Build: Barbour Welt & Vi-Lite This edition of the Bourton features a specific combination of premium components to ensure it remains lightweight despite its rugged appearance.

  • Barbour Welt: This shoe is constructed with a Barbour welt, a specialised storm welt that provides an even more robust and decorative watertight seal between the upper and the sole.

  • Vibram Vi-Lite Sole: To maintain a featherweight feel, the shoe is fitted with a Vibram Vi-Lite sole. This expanded rubber compound offers the commanding look of a heavy tread with exceptional shock absorption and significantly reduced weight.

  • Full Leather Lining: The interior is fully lined with soft natural leather for breathability and comfort.

  • Essential Care Tips for Waxy Commander

    • Cleaning: Use a stiff brush to remove dried mud and dust.

    • Restoration: If the leather looks dry, apply a specialised wax-based conditioner to restore water-repellency.

    • Drying: Always allow the shoes to dry naturally at room temperature.

    • Embrace the Scuffs: Small scratches can often be rubbed out with a warm thumb to redistribute the internal waxes.

Shoe Knowledge

The Brogue

The brogue is defined as a strong outdoor shoe, distinguished by its decorative perforations. Originally, these details were entirely functional, designed to allow water to drain and allow for ventilation in wet conditions. Over time, the brogue evolved from practical footwear into a lasting staple.

An icon of Northampton shoemaking history, Tricker's styles like the Bourton have long defined the country brogue, staying true to its origins through robust construction and unmistakable detailing.

LAST NO: 4444

These are a generous fit and therefore typically larger by half a size. If you normally take a UK size 8, we recommend you try a size 7½.

Waxy Commander

A rugged leather with a character of its own which will age as you wear them. The warmth of your hand releases the natural oils, blending away the marks. It is, however, important to look after your Tricker’s footwear and for this edition and leather, we recommend using a Neutral wax polish.

Rough Elegance

"My 1st pair of Tricker's and I couldn't be happier. Never heard of rough out suede and it is indeed rougher than what one is used to, but that's not to suggest it lacks elegance. I'm a US size 12 wide; the fit assistant recommended UK 10. 5 so that's what I went with, and it's a perfect fit. These shoes are so substantial, I'm cognizant of having to lift my feet to walk but got used to that in no time. They're stylish, comfortable, durable. I'm looking forward to many years of enjoying and this won't be my last pair."

BOURTON COUNTRY SHOE - ACORN ANTIQUE (6 Fitting)

"These are stunning shoes! Great customer service. I first received the shoes and noticed a couple superficial scuffs. When I inquired about what type of polish to order to touch them up they suggested sending them back at no expense. Tricker’s quickly shipped a new pair in perfect condition and shipped a tin of polish on the house. Word of advice: take your time to make sure you order the correct size. Online customer support was very helpful. I own two pairs of Tricker’s (different models) and have two different sizes. I am a US size 10 but I am a size 8 (6 fitting) in the Burton Country Shoe and a size 8. 5 (6 Fitting) in the Matlock Country Shoe - Natural Horween (also amazing)!"

Best shoe I have ever owned

"I have had these shoes for over two years now and don’t wear them every day but when I do I find them comfortable and sturdy enough to go through mud on walks or get them wet when working and they polish up to have a night out and look their best. The cost doesn’t matter when you are buying a shoe for life and they really will last you a lifetime"

Good shoe, too wide

"The Good: Excellent leather, good stitching throughout. You can tell it is a very hardy shoe. I purchased mine as a second pair of shoes for rainy weather. The storm welt performs well, as does the fully gussetted tongue. The bad: I would a strongly consider alternatives if you’ve got normal to narrow width feet like I have. While the fit is notoriously wide, it is to the point where it may be considered an inherent fault. The quarter is so generous that despite getting the appropriate size in the standard 5 width the top most eyelets still touch. The only reason I did not return them completely is because at that maximum tightness, they are snug enough to be comfortable. I had already exchanged them once to size down, and to go any further would see my toes curled. For reference I wear a 6. 5UK in the Crockett and Jones Islay boot. I had to size all the way down to a 5. 5UK for the Bourtons."

A beautiful pair of shoes

"Very nice design and good, robust production , like all my shoes from Tricker👌"

Thomas L. (5/5)

"Great pair from Tricker’s and another addition to my collection. Looking forward to putting this to use and it should age well, hopefully. For now, its on display on my shelf for my visual appreciation ( if you understand what this means!)."

Really great shoes!

"I love Bourton's generally. This is my third pair. The buffalo leather is a great color and I like the texture as well. I also really like the natural welt and the Ridgeway sole. These are very comfortable amd built like a tank. Trickers is my favorite shoe/boot maker. Excellent quality."

Cameron S. (5/5)

Perfect shoes!

"Got a pair in earth castorino suede. The green looks fantastic, rich and natural. Th Vi-lite sole is super comfortable which is probably the main reason I didn’t need any breaking-in period. Great quality overall."

Jarek B. (5/5)

My 4th pair of Bourtons

"My 4th pair of Bourtons and even though an oddball color perhaps my favorite one. Love how the brouging plays peekaboo from different angles in the deep colored suede for an understated chonk factor. And always appreciate the impossible to wander bellows tongue."

Justin E. (5/5)

Nicest shoes I've ever worn

"Beautifully made shoes: near-flawless craftsmanship, sturdy and more comfortable with each wear. One note on sizing: Tricker's recommends going down by half a size from your regular UK size. Neil in the Jermyn St shop fitted me, and my regular UK size turned out to be the proper fit for me."
