The earliest versions of the monk strap shoe featured a simple strap that was fastened with a buckle. The single monk strap shoe was the most common style during this time, with a single strap crossing over the instep and fastening on the side. It provided a secure fit and allowed for easy adjustment.
Today, the monk strap shoe is highly regarded for its timeless elegance, versatility, and unique charm. It is a popular choice among professionals, fashion enthusiasts, and those who appreciate classic and refined footwear, which is why it has been a staple within our collection.
Our 1001 Burnished takes our classic Acorn and delivers is with a beautiful burnished look with darker tones. An iconic piece.
Made from calf leather, calf leather is finer grained, and lighter in weight than the hide of older cattle. This means that it is also more supple. It is also very durable in comparison to its thickness.
These shoes have a mottling effect which is a result of the burnishing. Aftercare for this leather, we use mid-tan, fawn or neutral shoe polish. You may find that you need to use a brown polish on the welt, if you do then be careful not to allow the brown pigmented polish to get onto the 1001 burnished leather.

It's inevitable that shoes will need a bit of TLC from time to time but look after them and they will last you a lifetime. We offer a fully inclusive repair service from re-heeling to total makeovers.
Our uncompromising standards of craftsmanship, honest materials, environmentalism and sustainability are values that have been preserved and developed through five generations.
Every material used in our construction can be traced back to its source.
Every pair of Tricker’s shoes and boots is 100% made in Northampton, the historic centre of British shoemaking. From cutting the leather to the final polish, each stage takes place under one roof at our St Michael’s Road factory, following a time-honoured process refined over generations. It’s here that traditional skills, patience and precision come together, ensuring every pair carries the integrity, durability and character that Northampton-made footwear is known for.
