SHOE KNOWLEDGE

Derby Shoe

A derby shoe is characterised by open lacing, which means that the eyelets for the shoelaces are sewn on top of the vamp (the upper part of the boot). This type of lacing allows the boot to be adjusted for a comfortable fit and makes it easier to put on and take off than a boot with closed lacing, such as an Oxford.

LAST NO: 4497s

This last has been used for decades. It is part of our history and character as England's oldest shoe manufacturer. The size (length fitting) of Tricker’s footwear made on this last (4497s) is true to size, we recommend sticking to your regular UK size. If you are unsure of your UK size, use our size guide to convert your known size to a UK size.

The last is a hard, three-dimensional form on which the shoe is constructed. Depending on the style of shoe we use different lasts, this is what dictates the overall shape, proportion, fit and character of the shoe.

Kudu Leather

Kudu leather is known for its durability and strength, as well as its unique texture and grain pattern. Due to Kudu's grazing habits, mainly amongst thorn trees, Kudu hide becomes scratched and scarred. These marks give the leather an inimitable character, making each pair of shoes and boots unique. People extol Kudu for their meat as well as their horns and cull them regularly for export, as well as local consumption, to the benefit of local communities. This leather is a by-product of local food industries and we only purchase it in limited amounts.

We recommend using Neutral Shoe Polish and Neutral Shoe Cream to maintain Kudu Leather.
