The Woodstock Plain Derby Country Shoe is a clean, understated Derby with a plain toe and minimal detailing. Made on our 4497s last, most often associated with our country boots, it has a generous fit, high-walled toe box and secure feel through the heel and waist. The result is a substantial country shoe with the stability of our boot lasts, but a simpler, more pared-back profile.

This version comes in Sign Kudu, a deep reddish-brown leather with a naturally rich, multi-tonal finish. Sourced from wild African antelope, Kudu often carries visible markings, scratches and scars from life in the bushveld, giving each pair its own character. The leather is known for being both tough and supple, with a surface that feels resilient while remaining soft and comfortable on the foot. As it flexes and creases, the Sign colourway shifts in tone, adding further depth with wear.

Each pair of Woodstock shoes is handmade in our Northampton factory in England by skilled craftspeople using traditional methods, and to the same exacting standards that first established our reputation. Built with a Goodyear storm welt for durability, added water resistance and the option to be resoled in years to come, it is finished on a Ridgeway rubber sole, giving the shoe reliable grip and stability while keeping a neater side profile than heavier treaded soles.

Shoe Knowledge

The Derby Shoe

A derby shoe is characterised by open lacing, which means that the eyelets for the shoelaces are sewn on top of the vamp (the upper part of the boot). This type of lacing allows the boot to be adjusted for a comfortable fit and makes it easier to put on and take off than a boot with closed lacing, such as an Oxford.

LAST NO: 4497s

This last has been used for decades. It is part of our history and character as England's oldest shoe manufacturer. The size (length fitting) of Tricker’s footwear made on this last (4497s) is true to size, we recommend sticking to your regular UK size. If you are unsure of your UK size, use our size guide to convert your known size to a UK size.

Kudu Leather

Kudu leather is known for its durability and strength, as well as its unique texture and grain pattern. Due to Kudu's grazing habits, mainly amongst thorn trees, Kudu hide becomes scratched and scarred. These marks give the leather an inimitable character, making each pair of shoes and boots unique. People extol Kudu for their meat as well as their horns and cull them regularly for export, as well as local consumption, to the benefit of local communities. This leather is a by-product of local food industries and we only purchase it in limited amounts.

We recommend using Neutral Shoe Polish and Neutral Shoe Cream to maintain Kudu Leather.
