Bourton is our iconic men's country shoe. These shoes are a piece of Northampton shoemaking history, and yet today they are the go-to shoe for men all around the world. The Bourton is unmistakable - a heavy Derby shoe that bears the brogue detailing synonymous with true country shoes. A half bellows tongue is folded and attached to the shoe to provide a water resistant seal, and the storm welt provides an additional water resistant seal between the shoe's upper and sole.

This edition of Ethan utilises CF Stead Kudu Leather.



Kudu is a species of antelope and is indigenous to a variety of African countries. Due to their grazing habits, mainly amongst thorn trees, Kudu hide becomes scratched and scarred. These marks give the leather an inimitable character, making each pair of shoes and boots unique. People extol Kudu for their meat as well as their horns and cull them regularly for export, as well as local consumption, to the benefit of local communities. This leather is a by-product of local food industries and we only purchase it in limited amounts.



We recommend using Neutral Shoe Polish and Neutral Shoe Cream to maintain Kudu Leather.

This last has been used for decades. It is part of our history and character as England's oldest shoe manufacturer.

The size (length fitting) of Tricker’s footwear made on this last (4444) is larger than a regular UK size by half a size. If you are unsure of your UK size, use our size guide to convert your known size to a UK size. Then take off half a size.

So if you normally take a UK size 8 (equivalent to US size 9, Japan size 27 and EU size 42), we recommend you order a size 7½ and so on.

• The Ridgeway Sole - The Ridgeway sole originated with the idea of a gentleman being able to utilise his most comfortable brogues on the golf course. A hard-wearing rubber sole characterised by protruding lugs and large ridge channels that offer great traction and stability. Ridgeway soles are more lightweight than commando soles but are thicker than Dainite boot soles and have a slightly raised profile. These are an excellent all-purpose sole that performs well in nearly every condition.
