The Derby Shoe

A derby shoe is characterised by open lacing, which means that the eyelets for the shoelaces are sewn on top of the vamp (the upper part of the boot). This type of lacing allows the boot to be adjusted for a comfortable fit and makes it easier to put on and take off than a boot with closed lacing, such as an Oxford.

LAST NO: 4497s

This last has been used for decades. It is part of our history and character as England's oldest shoe manufacturer. The size (length fitting) of Tricker’s footwear made on this last (4497s) is true to size, we recommend sticking to your regular UK size. If you are unsure of your UK size, use our size guide to convert your known size to a UK size.

Horween

The Horween Tannery in Chicago, USA was founded in 1905 and is the oldest tannery in the United States.  Horween leathers employ traditional tannages and techniques, carefully updated with modern applications. Their leathers are still made by hand, as they always have been.

Horween Derby is a vegetable-tanned full-grain leather that is heavily stuffed with waxes and fats and is tumbled to add suppleness and texture.  This leather has a semi-smooth, low gloss finish with occasional wrinkles on some parts of the hide. It ages beautifully over time.

Matlock Country Shoe.

"Ordered online. The shoes arrived very quickly. They are typical Trickers quality - robust & built to last. I’m just wearing them around the house atm, to break them in. When not in use, I put the correct sized cedar shoe trees inside them. Bought for outdoor country use (dog walking etc) as I got fed up with paying £150+ for “walking shoes” that can’t survive longer than 18 months daily use. Properly maintained & cleaned, my Matlocks will last me years - especially as they’re Goodyear welted and can be re-soled. Thank you. They come up large, so wear country socks."
